Dave Alvin, Phil Alvin, Johnny Bazz, Bill Bateman, Gene Taylor Steve Berlin, and Lee Allen combined punk swagger with an incredible knowledge of American Roots Music gleaned from their large personal collections of 78s, 45s and LPs and from personal friendships with Big Joe Turner and other legends. In fact it would not be an exaggeration to say that the genre Americana and American Roots Music started with this great band. Along with X, they discovered and opened a lot of doors for Los Lobos.
